Mohsin's Char Flood Recovery: Hope in the Aftermath by DFBY Foundation
Two weeks ago, the floodwaters that ravaged Mohsin’s Char, a small island on the Brahmaputra River in the Kurigram district, finally receded. However, the devastation left behind is a stark reminder of the challenges that lie ahead for the community.
The floods destroyed crops, damaged homes, and disrupted livelihoods, leaving many families in Mohsin’s Char struggling to rebuild their lives. The need for support is still immense, even as the immediate crisis has passed.
Recognizing the ongoing need, Care & Shine Foundation, in collaboration with Donate for Bhurungamari Youth Foundation (DFBY Foundation), mobilized a team of volunteers to deliver essential food supplies to 100 families in Mohsin’s Char. The journey was difficult, as the roads were still damaged and the island remained accessible only by boat. But the volunteers were determined to reach the community and provide much-needed relief.
Upon arrival, the team was met with a mix of emotions. While the immediate danger had passed, the residents of Mohsin’s Char were still grappling with the aftermath of the floods. Homes were in disrepair, fields lay fallow, and the community was struggling to regain its footing.
The food supplies distributed by DFBY Foundation will provide a lifeline for families in need. The rice, oil, salt, potato and other essential items will help them meet their immediate nutritional needs and provide them with the energy to rebuild their lives.
The relief effort in Mohsin’s Char is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of community support. Despite the challenges they face, the residents of Mohsin’s Char are determined to rebuild their homes, their livelihoods, and their community.
